New Or Used Rig?

Those interested in getting a truck, be it your first or your 5th, are always debating the pros and cons of getting a used big rig compared to a new one. Unlike an automobile, where the newer they are, the better, that’s not always the case when it comes to trucks. However, it also depends on personal preference and job specifics, as not every truck is made for the same thing.

Trucks like the Peterbilt 379 went out of production after 2007, and yet they are still one of the most popular and sought-after trucks on the market, due to their incredible power that even 2015 models can’t compare to.  These are recommended if you are always carrying heavy loads, as there’s really no competition in that field. In this regard, used is the way to go.

One of the most advertised benefits of new trucks are the fact that you rarely have to do maintenance and repairs on them. This couldn’t be any further from the truth, as there are just as many new trucks breaking down on the road as there are new ones. The reason is because the amount of force that the engine outputs can cause damage to components at any time – it’s really a matter of luck. That means you will have to do the regular maintenance on new trucks as much as you have to on older ones. The only main difference is the benefits of new tires – but you can get them on an older truck as well.

With all that said, it becomes increasingly clear that used trucks provide the same benefits as newer ones, for a fraction of the price. Regardless of what route you decide to go, you will still need to get it check up and maintained on a regular basis, which is what J&M Truck and Trailer Repair is here to help you with.
